North Rift residents celebrate return of peace after years of insecurity

Residents of the North Rift region have expressed joy and relief following the return of peace and tranquility to an area that has long been plagued by insecurity and conflict.

The residents attributed the positive turn of events to a combination of ongoing peace campaigns, interdenominational prayers, and the recent deployment of additional security personnel.

“We are truly grateful. For the first time in years, we can sleep peacefully in our homes,” said Joyce Kirwa, one of the local residents. “Many of us had fled due to fear and violence, but now we are slowly coming back and rebuilding our lives.”

Maria Sogomo, another resident, echoed the sentiment, noting that families were reuniting and farming activities had resumed in several areas. “The efforts by the government, religious leaders, and community elders are really paying off. We feel safer now than ever before,” she said.

The residents also noted that learning had fully resumed in many schools across the region, a sign of restored normalcy. “Education is key for our children’s future. Seeing schools reopen is a clear sign that peace is finally taking root,” said Sogomo.

Church leaders, led by Bishop David Kipsoi, lauded the community’s unity and pledged continued spiritual support. “We will not relent. We must continue preaching peace and reconciliation among all communities,” said the bishop. “Only through unity and forgiveness can we heal the wounds of the past.”

In a further sign of progress, several suspected bandits have surrendered their firearms to authorities in recent weeks. The surrender has been hailed as a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry and insecurity that has haunted the region for years.

“This is a major milestone,” said a local security official. “It shows that our efforts — both diplomatic and operational — are working. The cooperation from the community has been vital.”

As peace continues to take root, residents have vowed to support all ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring lasting stability and development in the North Rift.
