Teachers, parents sensitized on child protection techniques in West Pokot

Teachers and parents were yesterday sensitized on the techniques of protecting children from dangers during a child protection workshop held in West Pokot County.

The event which was held at Mary Assumption Catholic Primary School on Thursday and dubbed ‘Making African Child Safe’ was attended by senior personnel in child protection department from the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops.

During the workshop, stakeholders sensitized children on how to protect themselves against any dangers, right channel to use in reporting the threats.

The teachers and non-teaching staff were also sensitized on their roles in protecting a child.

Stakeholders called on the importance of forming importance of forming Child Protection Committee that enables them report any form of abuse to any child without fear of expression.

The programme which is carried out in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa, aims to widen the  scope of child protection in the region.

Adrian Rotino the Learners President at Mary Assumption Catholic Primary School said that students now cop with challenges and their parents are also happy with “watunze Watoto Programme/Child Protection Programme.”

In addition he said that every circumstance has solutions and the program prepare learners for future life activities.
