Learning activities at Kiptergekyan School in Bomet County have come to a standstill after angry parents staged a protest demanding answers over the school’s registration status.
Led by community members Joyce Kirui and Emily Langat, the parents allege that despite the school having operated for years, it remains unregistered — a situation they say has left their children’s education in limbo.
“We have tried for months to access the NEMIS platform to confirm the school’s registration, but nothing is coming up,” said Joyce Kirui. “We are tired of being ignored. We want to know if our children’s education is even valid.”
The protest, now in its third day, saw dozens of parents gather at the school gates, chanting slogans and demanding the intervention of the Ministry of Education.
Emily Langat, another concerned parent, vowed that the demonstrations would continue until action is taken. “Today, we will not go home until our cries are heard,” she said. “We feel betrayed. If the school is not registered, then what has all this time and money gone to?”

Parents further accused local education authorities of turning a blind eye to their concerns.
“We have tried reaching out to the education officials, but no one seems to care,” said another protester. “The school principal has also refused to address us, and we believe it’s because he knows the truth.”
Efforts to get a response from the education department were futile, as the responsible official was neither in the office nor answered repeated phone calls.
As tensions escalated, security personnel were deployed to the scene to maintain order. Meanwhile, parents have threatened to withdraw their children from the institution until the matter is fully resolved.
“We are not sending our children back until the school is officially registered,” Kirui stated firmly.
The community now awaits a response from the relevant authorities, as the future of Kiptergekyan School hangs in the balance.
