The Ministry of Education (MoE) has directed all schools across the country to validate their education data ahead of a September 5 deadline, warning that only institutions with verified information will continue accessing government education services, including government funding.
In a circular dated August 28, 2025, Principal Secretary for Basic Education Amb. (Prof.) Julius K. Bitok instructed County Directors of Education to spearhead the nationwide exercise targeting primary, junior, and secondary schools.
The directive, which was also copied to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migosi Ogamba and all Regional Directors of Education for immediate enforcement, follows recommendations from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, which emphasized the need for a robust digital platform to support planning, policy formulation, and resource allocation in the education sector.
The validation, which will feed into the soon-to-be operational Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS), is expected to become the government’s central database for accurate and reliable school information.
“The Ministry underscores the importance of this exercise as a prerequisite for data onboarding onto KEMIS. Only schools whose data has been fully validated will be activated on the system to receive education services,” Prof. Bitok said in the directive.
The exercise will cover school profile data, head of institution profile data, school bank account details, and learner enrollment data; including figures by grade, gender, and special needs status.
County Directors of Education have been tasked to mobilize school heads and Sub-County Directors of Education to submit their verified records via prescribed online links. They will also be required to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the information before forwarding it to the Ministry.
