Police in Dagoretti, Nairobi County, have arrested a man found in possession of 8 Kg of bhang near Gatina Primary School, in what authorities described as an intelligence-led operation targeting drug trafficking hotspots.
The suspect was apprehended on Thursday, August 21st, 2025, at the school’s main gate by officers from Muthangari Police Station, who were on patrol in the Kawangware 56 area. The arrest followed a tip-off from a member of the public who reported a suspicious individual carrying two bulky bags near the school premises.
According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) through their X (formerly twitter) account, the officers responded swiftly to the alert and intercepted the man at the scene. A search of his luggage revealed eight kilograms of what is suspected to be cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang.
“The suspect was stopped and searched, and the two bags were found to contain 8kg of suspected narcotic drugs,” the NPS confirmed.
The man was immediately taken into custody and escorted to the station, where he is being held pending arraignment in court. The seized bhang has been forwarded to the Government Chemist for forensic analysis.

Police said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks operating near schools and residential areas.
“The National Police Service remains committed to the fight against narcotics and appreciates the cooperation from members of the public,” the statement read.
Previously, Gatina Primary School, located in a densely populated part of Dagoretti, had been flagged as a vulnerable area due to its proximity to informal settlements and high foot traffic.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether he is linked to a larger drug trafficking ring.
