CUE grants Consolata International University interim authority to operate in Kenya

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has granted Consolata International University a Letter of Interim Authority, allowing it to operate as Kenya’s newest institution of higher learning.

The announcement was made on August 20, 2025, during a ceremony at the CUE headquarters in Nairobi. The event was attended by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, Principal Secretary Beatrice Iyangala, CUE Chairman Prof. James Onyango Owino and other senior officials.

Consolata International University now becomes the 82nd accredited institution of higher education in the country. The Letter of Interim Authority permits the university to admit students, roll out academic programs and set up governance structures as it progresses toward full charter status.

Education CS Julius Ogamba commended the institution’s vision of offering holistic education that is aligned with Kenya’s development goals. He pointed out that the university will focus on a diverse set of academic programs, including teacher training, business, health sciences, agriculture and environmental studies. These fields, he noted, are essential for equipping young people with relevant skills that can support the country’s socio-economic growth.

Ogamba further underscored the importance of accountability and quality assurance in higher education, including faith-based institutions such as Consolata International University. He noted that academic programs must meet national standards and produce graduates who can contribute meaningfully to society.

The CS called on stakeholders to support the new university, stating that strong institutions of learning are central to national prosperity. He emphasized that the role of universities goes beyond teaching to include nurturing innovation, character, and resilience in graduates.

CUE will continue to oversee the university’s progress as it works toward full charter status, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. The granting of the Letter of Interim Authority marks an important milestone for Consolata International University as it begins its journey into Kenya’s higher education landscape.
