Mbale Boys High School has in recent months faced a wave of student unrest that forced the transfer of the principal and ten teachers.
On Monday August 18, the County Government of Vihiga moved to calm the situation through a stakeholders’ meeting held at Friends School Mbale.
The session, chaired by County Executive Committee Member for Education, Science, Technical and Vocational Training Anne Desma, reviewed a report on the school’s status and agreed on steps to restore stability.
Desma reaffirmed the county’s commitment to supporting Mbale Boys, describing it as one of the region’s leading Extra-County schools. She assured stakeholders that the government would implement the Board of Management’s recommendations, including creating a conducive environment for the new principal as he takes over leadership.

She stressed the need to uphold discipline in line with school regulations and the Education Act, adding that the County Education Scholarship Programme will continue to support current beneficiaries but will not admit new ones, in line with a directive from the Controller of Budget.
Desma further called on the school to address students’ pressure points, promote dialogue among learners, teachers and parents, strengthen the Guidance and Counselling unit, and enforce school rules with the support of parents.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that the measures would help the institution recover from the recent unrest and safeguard its academic standing.
