Kenyan schools flexed their rugby muscle on day four of the 2025 East Africa Games Rugby Sevens, thrilling home fans with commanding performances that underlined their superiority in the regional showpiece.

Bungoma High were in ruthless form, dispatching London College 26–7 before digging deep to overcome Bwake Boys 14–7 in a tense Kenyan derby. Bwake Boys had earlier produced one of the day’s biggest upsets, edging Koyonzo Boys 14–12 in a fiercely contested clash that left the crowd roaring.

St Peters Mumias, cheered on by the Kakamega faithful, cruised past Mbarara High School 26–7 with a display of free-flowing rugby. Their winning streak was halted later in the day, however, as Koyonzo held them to a thrilling 7–7 draw, a result that keeps their pool wide open heading into the decisive stages.

In the girls’ bracket, Kenya’s Kinale Girls stamped their authority with a 31–5 demolition of Nkoma Secondary School, showcasing both pace and power. St Theresa also kept the home crowd buzzing, grinding out a slender 7–5 win against Jinja SS in a low-scoring but tense encounter.

Other results saw Uganda’s Mbarara High edge Saint Mary’s Kisubi 10–5, while Saint Joseph’s Kitale blanked Paul Harris 15–0. London College restored pride with a 12–7 victory over Rwanda’s Gitisi TSS, keeping their hopes alive despite an earlier setback.

Away from the Sevens action, the Rugby Fifteens competition continued to gather momentum, with equally high stakes and passionate support inside Kakamega’s buzzing arenas.

With Bungoma High, Bwake Boys, Saint Peters Mumias, Kinale Girls, and Saint Theresa all breathing fire, the host nation has firmly established its dominance at this stage of the tournament. As the Games edge closer to the knockout rounds, the question remains whether Uganda, Rwanda, or any of the other regional challengers can break Kenya’s iron grip on East Africa’s school rugby crown.
