Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) National Second Vice Chairperson Aggrey Namisi has called on teachers across the country to remain patient as the government implements the salary adjustments promised under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Namisi made the remarks on Friday during the funeral service of the late Soita Wanyama Cheloti, held at Kaptanai village in Kabuchai constituency. The solemn event brought together hundreds of mourners, including teachers, union leaders, SACCO officials, and members of the local community.
In his address, Namisi reassured teachers that the union was closely monitoring the implementation of the CBA and engaging with relevant government agencies to ensure that the agreed-upon salary increments are delivered.

“I call upon teachers to be patient as the government fulfils its commitment to the CBA,” Namisi said. “I also encourage them to join SACCOs as a means of saving and building a secure financial future, especially in these challenging economic times.”
The late Cheloti, until his death, served as Director at Ng’arisha SACCO, the largest savings and credit cooperative in Bungoma County. He was widely recognised for his dedication to promoting financial literacy and economic empowerment among members, particularly in the teaching profession.
Speakers at the funeral paid glowing tribute to Cheloti’s leadership, describing him as a visionary who believed in the power of collective savings to transform lives. His contribution to strengthening Ng’arisha SACCO earned him respect across the county and beyond.
Among those present at the funeral were NEC member Moses Masika, senior SACCO officials, KNUT leaders from various branches, and a large number of educators who had worked closely with Cheloti.
