Dr Julius Mambili has been in leadership for two and a half years and has retired as the Chief Principal of Kakamega High School.
This marks the end of an era enveloped by academic excellence, a commitment to student welfare, and infrastructural growth.
In a letter to parents, guardians, and the community of Kakamega High, Dr Mambili expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support he received during his tenure.
Dr Mambili said that challenges encountered were celebrated, and milestones achieved were acknowledged, and requested that the school community embrace change with optimism and resilience.
“Managing Kakamega School has been both a privilege and an honour—an experience full of challenges, but also of remarkable triumphs,” he said.
Under Dr. Mambili’s watch, Kakamega School experienced transformative developments, recording one of its best KCSE performances in history, with many students securing competitive university placements.
In addition, major infrastructural strides were made, including the drilling of a second borehole to improve water access, the construction of six new tuition blocks and two dormitory buildings, and the installation of a 25 KVA solar power plant.
Other improvements included the construction of a modern ablution block, the ongoing development of a modern ICT library (currently 70 per cent complete), the installation of additional water points across dormitory and field areas, and the successful revamping of the school farm.
Dr Mambili, despite persistent economic challenges and a Ksh. 28 million fee arrears burden, remained resolute in steering the institution forward.
He asked parents to continue supporting the new administration and maintain their financial commitments for the benefit of their sons.
“We did not achieve everything we envisioned, but we achieved everything we could with what we had,” the letter added.

He further acknowledged the imperfections of leadership with humility and grace, asking for forgiveness from any parents he may have disappointed, and offering the same in return.
“Please know that I carry with me a strong bond with your sons. Though I step away from daily management, I remain just a phone call away should you ever need consultation or guidance,” he added.
“Kakamega School is in my blood. My phone may ring less often now, but my heart will always pick up.”
His administrative journey began at St. Teresa’s Bikeke Boys’ Secondary School in Kitale. He earned the trust of staff, students, and the wider community by fostering a culture of academic ambition and discipline.
From Bikeke, he was transferred to Kabarnet Boys High in Baringo, where he continued his efforts toward academic excellence and stability.
Kabarnet was celebrated as a ‘school of excellence’ during his tenure, under his leadership.
His growing reputation led to his appointment as principal of Litein Boys High School, an extra-county boarding school in Kericho County.
Dr. Mambili reached the pinnacle of his educational leadership journey in 2023 when he was appointed Chief Principal at a prestigious national institution.
His tenure also saw the strengthening of student welfare systems and improved resource mobilisation, even amid national economic pressures and delayed capitation.
