Talau School leads in environmental conservation in West Pokot

Talau Comprehensive School in West Pokot County has become one of the leading learning institutions to be a case study in environmental and soil conservation.

According to the school Senior Master Hillary Muhalia, the school has mobilized the students and sensitized them on soil, water and environmental conservation.

The conservation programme early this year, was boosted by the area MP Samwel Moroto who supplied the school with enough seedlings which were planted in a half acre of land.

Other tree seedlings were brought by the learners from their homes and were planted along the school fence. The positive effect of trees is that they conserve soil and water in the environment

The school has also infuse the growth of fresh vegetables like sukuma wiki and kunde and also local vegetables like,” Sagaa, murere and managu”

“These vegetables are highly nutritious and healthy,” said Muhalia who is in charge of the activities.

“We are planning to introduce avocado tree seedlings which will supplement feeding program for learners and also it will be a source of income for the 4k club members,” said Isaac Sitienei who greatly supports the program.
