Board of Management Chairperson Dr. Daniel Yumbya has decried the government’s continued neglect of Kathiani Girls High School, despite its classification as a national school.

Speaking during the school’s prize-giving day, Dr. Yumbya said the institution, which is the only national school in the Ukambani region, has been overlooked for years in terms of funding and support.

“Kathiani Girls has not received the kind of support given to other national schools. We submitted a proposal requesting Ksh15 million, but we received nothing,” he lamented.

Dr. Yumbya cited examples of better-funded schools, such as Kenya High and Nairobi School, saying Kathiani Girls was last funded under the national school status over ten years ago.

“There are many stalled projects in the school due to financial constraints. Yet despite all this, our students continue to perform exceptionally well,” he said.

He spoke during the launch of the school’s new 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, which outlines its vision for growth and development — a vision now heavily dependent on external support.

Yumbya also called upon the government and the Ministry of Education to ensure that capitation money is disbursed in full and on time to ease the running of schools.
