The Government has approved the relocation of Moi Teachers Training College (Moi TTC) to Talai High School in Baringo Central, allocating Ksh 100 million for infrastructure upgrades to support the transformation.
Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, announced the approval during an official inspection visit to Talai High School on Wednesday, accompanied by Baringo Central MP Joshua Kandie and Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap. The CS confirmed that the school meets all requirements to operate as a fully-fledged teachers’ training college.
“Talai High School has been earmarked for transformation into a fully-fledged training institution to meet the growing demand for teacher education and tertiary learning in the Rift Valley,” said Ogamba.
“We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition and minimal disruption to current learners.” He added
To facilitate this change, students currently enrolled at Talai High School will be redistributed to nearby secondary schools within the constituency.

The Ministry of Education has committed Ksh 100 million toward upgrading existing infrastructure and constructing new academic facilities at the Talai site.
This development comes after the recent enrolment of the first cohort of students at Moi TTC Seretunin under Kabarnet University College. The growing demand for teacher education prompted the need for a new host facility, as Moi TTC Seretunin undergoes its own transition.
Baringo Central MP Joshua Kandie, who hosted the CS during the visit, welcomed the government’s decision, noting its long-term impact on educational growth in the county.
“I am delighted that the CS has approved the facility after a thorough inspection, confirming that it meets the required standards to operate as a teachers’ college,”said Kandie.
“This is a proud moment for Baringo Central. Hosting Moi TTC and soon the University of Baringo elevates our status in the national education landscape and opens new opportunities for our youth.”

He further revealed that Moi TTC Seretunin is currently undergoing a Ksh 30 million renovation, and that construction of Kabarnet University College is set to begin soon in Kabarnet town.
“This is a major win for our people. The Ksh 100 million upgrade at Talai, the Ksh 30 million renovation at Seretunin, and the upcoming Kabarnet University College will significantly expand opportunities for our youth to access quality higher education close to home,” he stated.
With the transition now approved and funding committed, Talai High School is set to begin its transformation into a premier institution for teacher education, promising to serve not only Baringo but the entire Rift Valley and neighboring counties.
