KUCCPS issues warning over social media impersonation

Students interact with the KUCCPS booth during a past climate-smart agriculture and trade exhibition to explore career and placement opportunities.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has issued a public advisory warning students and the general public against a Facebook page named “Kuccps News,” which it accuses of impersonating the state agency.

In a notice released on Monday, KUCCPS cautioned that the page was misusing its identity on social media and distanced itself from any content or information shared by the page.

The agency clarified that it holds no responsibility for posts made on platforms not officially affiliated with it.

“KUCCPS wishes to distance itself from a Facebook Page going by the name “Kuccps News” that is impersonating the institution.Anyone engaging with the Facebook Page and similar social media pages, or the persons operating them, is doing so at their own risk. KUCCPS does not take responsibility for any information posted on the platforms, “read part of the statement, urging those affected to report such cases to the police.

The placement agency emphasised that the acronym “KUCCPS” is its intellectual property and that its unauthorised use is both misleading and a violation of the law.

In response, the administrators of the Facebook page acknowledged KUCCPS’s concerns but denied the claims of impersonation. They said they have always identified as an independent platform focused on education matters. In their statement, the page believes the agency is unfair as they are letting Scot free those impersonating the name for malicious gains.

“First and foremost, we wish to CLARIFY that at NO POINT have we ever claimed to be KUCCPS. On the contrary, we have consistently stated — both in our previous posts and in our “About Us” section—that we are an independent platform. We even joke by saying ‘Sisi ni bloggers wakawaida. (We are just ordinary bloggers) — just passionate about education,” the administrators added.
