The Ministry of Education (MoE) has urged parents to work closely with teachers to improve the quality of their children’s education.
Speaking during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Kitale School, Trans-Nzoia County Director of Education (CDE) Pamela Akelo said the Ministry is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the new Competency-Based Education (CBE), which all schools across the country have adopted.
She noted that as the Ministry, through the national government, continues to lay the groundwork for Grade 10, parents also have a role to play by ensuring that their children attend school on time.
“As we appreciate the commendable work by our teachers, it is vital for parents to join hands with them to support students’ education. It is the responsibility of parents to pay school fees on time and ensure that children report to school promptly,” said Akelo.

The AGM was attended by many parents, led by the Bishop Dr. Emmanuel Chemengich of the ACK Diocese of Kitale, under whose sponsorship Kitale School operates.
The Bishop noted that, despite being one of the oldest institutions established during the colonial era and having since been elevated to a national primary school—one of only five in the country—it still faces a shortage of classrooms.
The headteacher, David Luganda, said the school board is working closely with him to ensure that more classrooms are built, and teachers are striving to deliver quality education on time.
He thanked Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi for allocating KSh 2.1 million from the NG-CDF fund for the renovation of the school dormitory.
He also expressed gratitude to Trans-Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang for drilling a borehole at the school, which has ensured an adequate water supply.
Former Hill School principal and past head of Kitale School, Hesborn Ngaira, urged parents to support the current headteacher in efforts to improve the school.
He highlighted challenges with the school’s main gate and access road, comparing Kitale School unfavorably with other national primary schools such as Hill School Eldoret, Moi Nyeri Complex School, Nairobi School, and Molo School, which have been improved through cooperation between parents and school management.
Ngaira expressed concern that some parents fail to pay school fees, which has led the school into accumulating significant debts.
