Following the government’s continued support to schools within Malava Constituency in Kakamega North, following the demise of the area MP Malulu Injendi, a school within the constituency has come out to pledge for the school bus that the late MP had promised them.

St. Teresa’s Isanjiro Comprehensive which is the topmost performing primary school within the sub county was promised a bus by the then MP in 2022 following their exemplary performance that saw them clinch the position one in the Kakamega North Sub-county leading to the legislator to assure them that he will deliver a school after his re-election but he died before fulfilling it.

According to senior teacher Jonathan Mulunda Waithaka, the MP visited the school to celebrate the results. Upon asking the pupils what they wanted him to do for them, they shouted, “school bus.”

He announced that he would deliver after winning his re-election, but as fate would have it, he passed away early this year. It is now our request to the government to take up the matter and honour his pledge to his pupils and the top-performing school.

Their calls come after Presidential aide Farouk Kibet has been touring the constituency, distributing goodies to schools, including buses and cash, to improve infrastructure. The latest school set to receive a brand new bus is the Centre of Excellence Friends Samitsi Girls, which is scheduled to receive its own this weekend,  July 18, 2025.

His senior counterpart, Patrick Misiko, also pointed out that the school population was overwhelmingly against the TSC teachers, despite their efforts to achieve good results.

We are an academic powerhouse not only in the sub-county but also in the county. However, we could do even better if we had a library, computer lab, and science lab to carry out Competency-Based Education (CBE) practicals.

The deputy head teacher academics Angela Chepchumba said she was amazed by the various educational development the government was initiating in Malava and also called for their considerations since the school having a population of 1600 it has very overstretched teaching staff and infrastructure with the current grade 7 each having a class of 88 from the normal 40, making it for the teacher even to move around and assist the learners.

“Our school very well the three consecutive years we have sent 44 pupils to national schools and this has led to a high influx of more pupils being enrolled here and this has seen us being forced to employ more Bom teachers but the worry is they have worked here for more than ten years without being absorbed by the Tsc as we continue paying them huge salaries for the good work they do here, but it is our wish that the government employs them to help cut down on the costs,” she requested.

Regarding decongestion, she asked the Ministry of Education and the NGCDF to consider constructing an 8-classroom, 2-storey building for them to accommodate the daily growing population.

“This school is a public one and we cannot send away parents who keep thronging here to admit their pupils following our high discipline, sterling performance and good morals, all steered under the catholic faith, steered by our able head teacher Sister Caroline Wanjala, who has a soft spot for her learners,” she added.
