In a significant milestone for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), the Ministry of Education has launched an automated online system to streamline the transition of learners from Grade 9 to Senior School.

The new platform, available at https://selection.education.go.ke, enables Grade 10 students nationwide to select their learning pathways and preferred schools.

According to the Ministry’s Step-by-Step guideline, school administrators will log in using credentials provided by Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs).

Once logged in, junior school administrators can update learner profiles, confirm the presence of key stakeholders during the selection process (such as parents, teachers, and the learners themselves), and input critical data, including learners’ home counties and any special needs.

The CBC framework requires students to specialize in one of three key pathways: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Science. After selecting a pathway, students must choose three subject combinations aligned with their interests and talents.

Each subject combination must be matched with four senior schools—one from each of the Ministry’s designated school clusters.

Once the process is complete, a downloadable or printable profile is generated for each student, consolidating their pathway and school selections.

The Ministry encourages all stakeholders—including parents and teachers—to support learners through this critical transition phase, which shapes the trajectory of their senior secondary education and long-term career development.
