Dr. Nancy Macharia, the outgoing CEO of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), has been nominated for the prestigious Digitally Fit Awards – Person of the Year (Team Kenya Edition), celebrating individuals with exceptional online influence and public impact.
The awards secretariat placed her among Kenya’s top three contenders following a review of her digital presence, expert score, and public votes. The recognition will be conferred during the 11th Edition of the awards scheduled for August 15, 2025, at the Argyle Hotel in Nairobi.
In the nomination letter, Selina Njuguna, Account Manager at the Digitally Fit Awards Secretariat, praised Macharia’s strategic use of social media to build community trust and elevate public engagement.
“Your vibrant, inclusive online engagement elevates brand awareness and builds community trust,” Njuguna wrote. She added that Macharia’s Facebook and Instagram platforms have consistently “showcased product quality, promoted local pride, and connected with a broad audience through engaging culturally relevant content.”

This honour comes just a day after Macharia officially handed over the reins of the TSC, ending a transformative decade at the helm.
Since her appointment in 2015, Macharia has steered the Commission through far-reaching reforms, including the digitisation of teacher management systems and the seamless transition to the Competency-Based Education (CBE).
With her nomination, Dr Macharia will now compete in the East Africa regional finals slated for December 2025 in Kampala, Uganda. Her departure from TSC may mark the end of an era. However, her digital legacy continues to attract recognition across sectors.
The Digitally Fit Awards (DFA) are annual awards that recognise and celebrate individuals, brands, and organisations making a significant impact through their digital presence and online engagement across East Africa. The awards focus on how nominees use digital platforms—primarily social media—to connect with audiences, build trust, influence public discourse, and promote their services, products, or causes.
