The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially opened applications for teachers interested in becoming examiners for the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

The training is scheduled to take place between July and August and will be conducted in two phases: an online module followed by a residential session.

This initiative is part of KNEC’s broader strategy to professionalize assessment under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and ensure that learners are evaluated by well-trained, competent educators.

To qualify for the training, applicants must meet several strict requirements. They must be registered teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and also registered with the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Additionally, candidates must hold at least a Diploma in Education, have a minimum of three years of teaching experience, and be under the age of 50. Notably, applicants must not be under interdiction or facing any disciplinary action and must be recommended by their head of institution.

KNEC sets a training fee of Ksh10,500, which will only be paid by those who are successfully shortlisted. The council emphasized that the training will be strictly residential during the physical phase, with the venue to be communicated to selected candidates in due course.

The training will cover marking schemes, assessment frameworks, and ethical standards to ensure consistency and fairness in the evaluation process.

The council said that applications must be submitted through the KNEC examiners portal at examinersapp.knec.ac.ke. Teachers with existing Contracted Professionals (CP2) accounts can log in using their credentials, while those without accounts must create one and complete their profiles. For those who have forgotten their passwords, a reset option is available by entering their mobile number in the format 2547.

Upon successful completion of the training, examiners will be contracted by KNEC to mark KJSEA papers. Deployment will be based on subject specialization and the council’s staffing needs for each paper.

This opportunity not only enhances the professional credentials of participating teachers but also contributes to the integrity of Kenya’s evolving education system.
