Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has appealed to the Vihiga County Government to urgently prioritize the improvement of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) infrastructure.

He emphasized that a quality educational foundation begins at the early childhood level, stressing that no child should be left behind due to inadequate facilities.

“A strong foundation in education begins at ECDE. We must invest in our youngest learners by ensuring safe, well-equipped, and supportive learning environments,” he said.

While speaking when he graced the closing ceremony of a meeting bringing together all primary school heads from Sabatia and Hamisi sub-counties at Goibei Girls Secondary School, Osotsi also called for the immediate settlement of pending gratuities and other dues owed to ECDE teachers, citing delayed payments as a major demotivating factor affecting performance and retention.

“Our ECDE teachers are the unsung heroes of our education system. Timely remuneration is not just a right—it’s a necessity,” he stated.

In a passionate and pointed address, Senator Osotsi also hailed teachers as the “backbone and opinion shapers” of the community, underscoring their critical role in shaping the nation’s future. He pledged his continued support in addressing the challenges facing educators, calling for their concerns to be treated with the seriousness they deserve.

“I stand firmly with our school heads. Their voices are vital, and the issues they raise must not be sidelined,” said Osotsi. “Teachers are not only educators, they are community leaders who guide and influence generations.”

The event, attended by hundreds of school heads and education stakeholders, served as a platform to spotlight longstanding issues in the sector. Many attendees lauded the senator’s firm stance, expressing hope that his intervention would spark renewed political will to address systemic challenges in Vihiga’s education system.

Senator Osotsi’s remarks are expected to reignite dialogue on teacher welfare and early education reforms, setting the tone for broader policy discussions at both county and national levels.
