Egerton University is hosting the National Workshop, conducted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), on Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) interventions, which has entered its crucial stage today at the ARC Hotel.
The workshop, which brings together three selected Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs) (2 regular and 1 Special Needs Education (SNE), Accountants, County ICT officers, and selected teacher champions, opened its doors on June 24 and is expected to conclude today, June 26, 2025.
The workshop is designed to sensitise TSC field officers on key components of the KPEEL program, including reporting requirements, livestreaming, TPAD, and the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE).

In a letter addressed to the selected participants by Dr Mugwuku Nthamburi, the Director of Teacher Professional Development, the participants were requested to have a functional laptop and other necessary materials.
Speaking to the participants about the key highlights of the workshop, TSC official Ibrahim Rugut, who represented the commission’s secretary, emphasised live streaming between schools as a way of achieving learning outcomes.
He also stated that the commission has focused on Teacher Induction, Mentorship and Coaching (Timec) as a mechanism to mitigate indiscipline in schools. The government is implementing the program with support from the World Bank and other organisations like the Global Partnership for Education and the LEGO Foundation.

It aims to reduce disparities in learning outcomes, improve girls’ retention in upper primary school and strengthen systems for delivering equitable education. The program is grounded in the Kenyan government’s National Education Sector Strategic Plan (NESSP II).
The program further focuses on providing scholarships, improving access to quality education and enhancing the overall learning environment in primary schools. The program is being implemented in all 47 counties in the country.
