A grade one girl from Nairimirimo Primary School in Samburu County was yesterday rescued after forcefully taken out of class by Morans for beading, a traditional practice that prepare young girls for early marriages.
The incident which occurred on June 18 during school hours, attracted the rage of human right groups and locals, prompting them to take swift action to rescue her.
According to the witness, the girl was in class when a group of Morans stormed the school compound and pulled her out in front of teachers and pupils, then fled the scene.
Human right activist and MP Naisula Lesuuda, said luckily the girl has been rescued and taken to Children’s Office in Samburu East, even though she is still traumatized from the incident.

Lesuuda thanked all the stakeholders who made the rescue successful.
“I wish to sincerely thank all the stakeholders who acted swiftly to rescue the young girl involved in the unfortunate incident in Nairimirimo Primary school. She is currently safe though understandably traumatized”
Lesuuda has committed to support the girl through her education. “I have committed to support the young girl through her education just as I do with other bright but vulnerable children through the Naisula Leesuda Peace Foundation.”

The incident has sparked public outrage, especially from women’s rights advocates, who condemned it as a violation of the girl’s rights. They are demanding urgent actions to protect others from harmful cultural practices like beading.
Human rights groups are now urging the government to strengthen school protection measures, particularly in rural and vulnerable regions, while reaffirming that no culture should override the constitutional rights of a child.
