Mwanyani Primary School in Machakos is set for a major facelift following a Sh50 million support from Safaricom M-PESA Foundation.
The facelift will include facilities such as a new administration block, Flash toilets, six modern classrooms, a computer lab with 45 computers and desks, as well as a modern library and a fully furnished kitchen.
The Foundation will also rehabilitate the borehole and build a water tower to redistribute the water, in a deal brokered by Mr Nzioka Waita, a former Manager with Safaricom Communications Company.

“I went to the company that I worked for for 14 years and asked for support to build this school. They gave me a Sh50 million cheque to rebuild the school from scratch,” said Mr Waita, who attended the laying of the foundation stone of the new classes at the school on Thursday.
He thanked the Safaricom M-PESA Foundation, led by Chairman Nicholas Ng’ang’a and CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa, for the support, which he said will transform the learning experience of children in the school.
Area MP Caleb Mutiso, who graced the occasion, said the facelift will transform the school into a model institution like no other in the region.
“Because this will be a model school and a modern school, we expect enrollment to increase drastically,” said the MP.
The MP also commissioned two classrooms built with support from the Constituency Development Fund.
Safaricom M-Pesa Foundation is supporting projects in all the 47 counties, said Ms Phyllis Kirui, who represented the Foundation at the event in Machakos.
She stated that the Foundation was dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and promoting sustainable livelihoods in Kenya.
