School alumni from Kisii conduct surveys on school facilities to identify where to help

Former Kisii County Chief Officer Patrick Lumumba.

Former Kisii County Chief Officer Patrick Lumumba led the Alumni of schools from Kitutu Chache South on Wednesday, June 18, to assess the areas in the education sector that require support to develop and sustain education standards in the area.

He led his team on a tour of Bogusero Ward and shared with parents, teachers, and pupils of primary schools within the Ward, making several stops where he could share a cup of tea with staff members of a few schools.

“We made a deliberate visit here to take a survey on the state of the infrastructure in our schools to help us gauge where we can chip in a local partnership to prop up education development in our region,” he said.

During the day-long survey in Ward Lumumba, one of the environmental conservation champions from the region, Ward Lumumba, decried the poor state of classrooms for both ECDE and upper primary schools, longing for their urgent improvement.

“It is not only the elected leaders who can be left to support development, but theirs is to lead us. Some of us can join hands for the common good of our society,” he said.

He highlighted several ways in which alumni can support their schools as effective ways to give back to society.

Lumumba said that alumni can uplift their old schools by making frequent visits to provide social, economic, and emotional solidarity, especially to young teachers in the profession during challenging times.

“Alumni are the only coeducation stakeholders you can not exchange as you might lose students, even teachers, but the students’ organisations keep on rejuvenating for a lifetime,” said Alice Nyaboke, one of the members.

Lumumba and his team promised to return to the constituency soon, visiting all wards to collect views from residents and compile data on education development priorities in the area.

“Ours will be a big friend education, waking up team, and we hope it will accomplish a lot as it will salvage stalled education development projects in the region.

He appealed to all education stakeholders from the region by supporting his team without mixing it with malicious politics.
