The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) has initiated a data collection exercise targeting senior school STEM teachers, in preparation for capacity-building training on Competency-Based Education (CBE) ahead of the 2026 transition.
In an official communication to all County Teacher Capacity Development Committee (CTCDC) Chairpersons, CEMASTEA CEO Jacinta L. Akatsa, HSC, requested that all senior school principals ensure their STEM subject teachers—those teaching Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Agriculture, Home Science, and Technical Subjects—submit their information through an online form available at https://shorturl.at/pOijB by June 23, 2025.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Education’s goal of achieving 60 per cent enrollment in STEM pathways under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which will see Grade 9 learners join senior schools next year.

“This exercise is not just about data; it’s about preparing our teachers to deliver meaningful, future-focused education,” said Akatsa in the circular. “We are committed to equipping educators with the tools they need to support the CBE rollout effectively.”
“We want to ensure that every STEM teacher entering senior school next year is ready to inspire innovation and scientific thinking,” said the official. “This data will guide how we design training content and logistics.
County CTCDC Chairpersons have been tasked with ensuring prompt compliance to avoid delays in training schedules and planning.
The capacity-building programme is expected to be rolled out in the second half of 2025.
