Muthithi Secondary School, a Sub-County school in Murang’a County has issued a stern directive restricting the use of mobile phones by teachers during school hours.
In an internal memo dated June 12, 2025, the school Principal Njenga Maina communicated to all teaching staff that the administration will no longer tolerate the use of mobile phones in classrooms or during lessons.
The memo outlines that teachers are strictly prohibited from using their mobile phones while teaching or engaging in any classroom activity. Furthermore, the administration has barred staff from posting personal content on the school’s official WhatsApp group.

The use of phones to take photographs within the school compound has also been restricted, and any such action without permission will be deemed a violation of the new policy.
The school leadership emphasised that under no circumstances should teachers hand over mobile phones to students. This measure is reportedly aimed at safeguarding discipline and ensuring a focused learning environment for all learners.
Principal Njenga Maina concluded the memo with a reminder that the outlined directives must be adhered to fully. He also noted that any teacher wishing to request a transfer from the institution is free to do so through the appropriate online channels.

“The rules should be followed,” Maina noted, “those who intend to be transferred you are at liberty to apply online.”
The move reflects a growing concern over mobile phone distractions in schools and marks a renewed commitment by the administration to uphold professionalism and discipline within the school setting.
