The Kenya Union of Pre-Primary Education Teachers (KUNOPPET) County Executive Secretary Joseph Sarich has urged teachers to remain focused and passionate in their teaching career.

Speaking to the press from his office in Makutano town Sarich reminded teachers to be duty-conscious: “We should work to the best of our ability by being present at our stations to avoid unnecessary absenteeism so that God can bless us.”

He reiterated that, even as the union struggles to align its members with what was rightfully designed for them by TSC and courts, all of them must practice utmost professionalism.

“Let’s fight hard to work for the children to the best of our knowledge and avoid being coerced to work,” he said.

“It’s fine, our salaries and allowances are being adjusted, but we shouldn’t forget that after that, stricter supervision of our work will follow, just like what has been experienced elsewhere.” he added.

He asked teachers to be at their places of work early and leave at the stipulated time to avoid any differences with the authorities.

Sarich assured all teachers in various cadres that their individual and collective concerns were being addressed in a comprehensive manner by the Public Service Board and the County Executive Committee member in charge of Education.

He thanked Simon Kachapin, Governor, for taking up education matters with the seriousness they deserve and stated that challenges among ECDE teachers will soon be a thing of the past.

Sarich advised teachers who the Governor had given a year’s reprieve to utilize their valid professional and academic documents before the window period elapses, so that they can remain relevant as teachers.

“We as ECDE teachers used to receive very little pay, educating our children was increasingly hard, we could not manage to do so many things in life including securing loans, but at least we would like to thank the County Government for being there for us,” he posed.

He asked the County Government to honor its pledge so that ECDE teachers can be on par with any other teacher.
