The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has given schools until May 31, 2025, to upload School-Based Assessment (SBA) project scores for Grades 4 and 5.
The assessments should be conducted between March 3 and May 31, 2025, and all scores should be uploaded to the KNEC Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal by the deadline.
According to the circular, schools are required to administer and assess learners in the following subjects: Science and technology, creative Arts and sports, and agriculture and nutrition.
This directive is outlined in the official KNEC circular, “Administration of the Year 2025 Grades 4, 5 and SNE Projects, Practicals and Performance Tasks.”
In March, the tasks uploaded to the CBA portal included projects in science and technology, creative arts and sports, and agriculture and nutrition. Schools are required to administer, mark, and submit scores before the deadline.

Most schools have completed the tasks and are now uploading results. In a circular dated January 21, 2025, KNEC instructed headteachers to keep all records and use locally available or improvised materials to reduce costs.
Assessments are also ongoing in Grades 3 (ILA), 7, 8, and 9. Grade 9 students are handling the KJSEA project in Creative Arts and Sports, with KNEC warning of a Sh500 penalty for late submission of KJSEA scores.
Head teachers are advised to log in to the CBA portal at https://cba.knec.ac.ke to access assessment tools and upload scores. In case of password issues, schools should contact their respective Sub-County Directors of Education for assistance.
