Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has settled all its debts, amounting to millions of shillings, which had been plaguing the institution for years.
Vice-Chancellor Solomon Shibailo said today that the university in Kakamega County was now financially stable and ready to compete with similar institutions across the continent.
Prof Shibailo said they were rolling out a number of competitive and unique education courses that had attracted students from across the world.
“I inherited a university grappling with massive debts, but we embarked on a mission to clear our financial status through the prudent use of resources. We are now one of the most financially stable institutions in the country,” he added.

Speaking at his offices in Kakamega town, the VC pointed out that they had sealed loopholes to eliminate cases of missing marks.
He said they would not condone lecturers who solicited sex from students in return for marks.
“MMUST has cemented its place as the hallmark of quality education in the country and beyond. That is why the student population is rising quickly,” he added.
Prof Shibailo pointed out that they were involved in a number of community service responsibility initiatives that targeted mainly public and secondary schools in the County.
He said these included adapting some schools and refurbishing them to ensure they improved their learning environments.
He said they were also set to take over Eregi Teachers Training College in Ikolomani Constituency.
“Eregi TTC will soon become a constituent college of MMUST, and we shall ensure we promote it to international standards through quality education,” he added.
He said the university had taken measures to ensure enough capacity to admit this year’s cohort of first-year students starting in September.
