Education sector is one of the major winners in the government’s expenditure plan for the 2025/2026 financial year starting July.
In the budget books tabled in the National assembly, the Treasury has increased allocation to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the body that employs teachers, which got additional Ksh 21.66 billion, pushing its recurrent spending to Ksh 387.08 billion in the next financial year.
The recurrent budget covers day-to-day operational expenses, such as salaries, utilities, maintenance, and office supplies.

A big chunk of additional recurrent allocation for TSC was for teacher resource management, an indicator that a lot of money will be set aside for hiring and promoting teachers.
The teachers’ resource management allocation rose from Ksh 354.62 billion to Ksh 376.9 billion.
The other major winners in the new financial year allocation are Defence(Military) increased by Ksh 14.18 billion and Aviation went high by Ksh 14.15 billion.
