Nambale Boys stares at leadership vacuum as new Principal declines to report to school

The Nambale Boys High School leadership vacuum is far from solved. The new expected principal, Wycliffe Manoah, who was transferred from Ramba Boys, declined to report to the school during the official handing-over ceremony held on April 30, 2025.

The temporary leadership vacuum emerged following the exit of Senior Principal Tom Amadi, who now attends Magunga High School in Kisumu County. This prompted Deputy Principal in charge of Academics, Dickens Wanga, to step in as the acting principal.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Manoah will be re-routed to a different school in his home County, Vihiga. However, official communication from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is yet to be made public.

Manoah was transferred to Nambale Boys after students at Ramba Boys went on a rampage following the recent death of two students in the septic tank, which forced the school to close early for the April holiday.

Amadi’s departure marked the end of a high-achieving tenure characterised by academic excellence, financial reform, and infrastructural development.

The succession process has also stirred political and institutional tensions. Matungu Member of Parliament, Peter Nabulindo, had earlier recommended Didimo Mukate of Bukhalalire Secondary School for the position.

However, the school’s sponsor, the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), reportedly opposed the move, insisting on adherence to established procedures and consultation.

Amadi leaves a strong legacy, leading the school to national recognition with the 2024 KCSE results, where Nambale Boys emerged as the only school in Busia County to post two A plains.

His administration was also credited with reducing the school’s debt from Kshs 36 million to Kshs 14 million and implementing cost-saving infrastructural projects.
