KNUT slams Govt over CBC confusion

Makueni branch KNUT Executive Secretary Benson Ndambuki

Makueni branch KNUT Executive Secretary Benson Ndambuki has called upon the government to be consistent in the future of education regarding Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which is now Competency-Based Education (CBE).

Speaking in Wote town, he noted that there has been a lot of confusion about the new curriculum, such as the recent debate about making mathematics optional and then returning it to compulsory within no time.

“Remember, as we debate over these things, our children are very keen on listening; let us not confuse them since everything is about them, not us,” he added.

On school opening, he noted that teachers closed without funds and have gone back with no cents, calling upon the government to release capitation funds to ease learning.

“For real, our teachers are depressed; nothing is harder than running a big institution without funds. Whatever the parents pay can not cover everything. Suppliers are still on their necks,” Ndambuki said.

He assured teachers that the union would continue fighting for them, urging them to discharge their duties accordingly for the betterment of the learners.

In the grade 9 classrooms, he noted that several classrooms remain to be constructed due to a lack of funds and urged the release of available funds.
