The dean of Zetech School of Business and Economics (ZSBE) have challenged graduates and students from the school to adopt entrepreneurial creativity to solve the societal business problems.
Prof Peter Kibas while speaking during the launch of a postgraduate programme-Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration and Management-at the University’s Mang’u campus in Juja, Kiambu County, said the ZSBE is a unique school where students, staff and faculty re-invent themselves through the continuous pursuit of discovery, knowledge, disseminating good practices and leading in bringing change to the communities and the World at large”.
Prof Kibas added that with an entrepreneurial mindset, thinking and researching, the members are expected to be change agents for communities and the Country, Continent and the World.
The don added that the University has adopted a progressive mode of delivering its programs, to equip learners with up to date entrepreneurial skills to solve the current business problems.
“At Zetech, we focus more on experiential learning outside the classroom , emphasizing, Entrepreneurship and innovation in all programs and balancing learning-by-studying with learning-by-doing in an interactive industry-oriented approach,” he said.
He also reiterated that the changing dynamics in the world of business globally, in light of the emerging crises such as covid-19 and others, accentuate the critical role of “soft skills” such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, time management and organizational skills among others.

“Indeed, the emphasis is now on skills that enhance positive human interaction, understanding,and meaningful relationships and not mere application or reproduction of knowledge. Therefore,business education going forward must incorporate the development of emotional intelligence and social intelligence in self-awareness, integrity, and sustainability over and above knowledge in complex problem-solving skills,” he noted..
Prof Kibas opined that the urgent call to review business education and to develop a curriculum to incorporate these issues cannot be delayed.
He said that the University’s pioneering post-graduate program, the PhD in Business Administration and Management incorporates a fusion of academia and industry experience in its approach and content.
The six areas of specialization being; Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, Human Resource Management, Financial Management and Investments, Strategic Management and Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics.
Prof Kibas said that they deliberately blend into the critical demand areas of business management today.
“To ensure that our graduates have the appropriate cutting-edge knowledge and skills, we engage industry experts in various forums: during the development phase of our training curricula, through the Guest speaker forums and field trips,” he said.
The don added, “Our curricula also incorporate emerging societal issues such as climate change, data-driven decision-making, sustainability, the importance of global cooperation, and issues of social change are no longer wishful issues.”
Michael Mugo, the Principal Officer CIC Microfinance, who was the chief guest at the event said that higher learning institutions must review their curricula constantly incorporating new frontiers of knowledge and practice so as to remain abreast with the changes in industry and business.
“This is aimed at developing responsible national and global citizens who will make a positive impact and serve a greater purpose,” he said.
Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof Njenga Munene reiterated that the institution’s programs mold and propel learners to a wider scope of occupations and careers, including becoming responsible entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders in all sectors nationally and globally.

“The wealth of knowledge gained from all key areas of study impart them not only with technical preparation but also key skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving ,time management, critical thinking, decision-making, organizational and stress management,” he said.
Former Water Principal Secretary Joseph Wairagu, who has already enrolled for the doctorate programme, said that it is designed to transform businesses in the country through effective and efficient management the ex-PS also hailed the University for enhancing training through its ODEL platforms saying most learners can conveniently study while engaging with their daily activities without interruptions.
The University is steadily rolling out new tailor-made programs to impact the country socially and economically. It recently unveiled Bachelor of Education Science degree at their Technology Park Mang’u Campus.
