Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) Chief Judge Francis Kinaka has encouraged judges in science fares to be IT compliant.

“Whether we like it or not, we must be IT compliant to have minimal errors and make work easier. I will request the same be reflected down to even sub-county level,” Kinaka said.

While speaking during the Eastern Regional closing assembly of KSEF competitions held at Makueni Boys, Kinaka encouraged the participants that even if they didn’t make it to nationals, they were still winners at their level.

The chief judge noted some issues that need to be corrected in the future, such as the presentation of fake data and the need for the project advisors to help students provide the correct data.

“There is stiff competition; train the participants how to code as well,” said Kinaka.

Another issue was recycling past projects without any improvement, adding that past projects must be improved and taken further.

He praised the students for their hard work and raising the bar a notch higher. He added that technology is moving fast, and every single idea is needed.

“You just need to be bold, curious and not be afraid of big dreams,” Kinaka said.

He called upon science teachers to introduce more clubs on robotics, coding, AI, and data science and carry out more research. Never get tired; be real. Let me remind you that science is about curiosity, honesty, and hard work.

Kinaka is also a teacher in the famous Precious Blood Kilungu and was accompanied by school science patron Pius Wambua and technical advisor Dennis Kavita.

Wambua noted they had five items from the county, and four are proceeding to nationals.

“Our girls really tried. In the chemistry category, we were position 3 with our item leveraging lichens. We were positioned one in the food technology and home economics category with our item, the green, golden delight,” Wambua said.
