Moi Varsity VC asks student leaders to work with his office to improve learning environment

The newly elected student leaders promise to enhance unity.

The newly elected student leaders at Moi University were sworn in yesterday, February 11, 2025. During the event, Prof Kiplagat Kitut, the acting Vice-chancellor, reminded the student leaders of their responsibility to serve with integrity and dedication.

The 37th Student Council and the 37th College Representatives were inaugurated at the Main Campus.

Pro emphasized the importance of collaborative leadership between the student council and the university management, encouraging the student leaders to prioritize the needs of their students.

“Work with the management to ensure students’ needs are met; they are your first customers,” he said.

His message resonated with the theme of service, urging the student leaders to remain focused on meeting the needs of their peers while maintaining a strong commitment to their academic responsibilities.

The Prof told the outgoing student council to use their leadership experiences as stepping stones for future political careers. “Build on the leadership experience you’ve gained here, and aim for higher positions after school,” Prof Kitut advised.

The acting VC, Prof Kitut, referenced Philippians 4:13 and Proverbs 3:5-6 as the verses to guide the new student council members, admonishing them to seek divine guidance in their leadership journey constantly.

He closed by saying, “Moi University is a giant that has just woken up,” urging the student leaders to participate in the institution’s ongoing transformation.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Khaemba Ongeti, called for inclusivity, integrity, and the promotion of the university’s core values. Moreover, he encouraged the new council to proactively raise and address student grievancess.

The students’ President, Chonjela Peter, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the student body for entrusting him and his team with leadership responsibility. He promised they would focus on uniting Moi University’s diverse campuses into a cohesive institution.

“Our dream is to make Moi University an intergenerational institution,” Chonjela said.

He pointed out that students’ missing marks and poor sound systems in auditoriums are challenges the administration should address to ensure a safe learning environment.
