Kwale County in partnership with development partners from Germany, has taken a major step towards enhancing education by commissioning new classroom and toilet blocks at Chifusini Primary School in Kinango Sub-county.
The state-of-the-art facilities are expected to create a more conducive learning environment and impact the academic performance of the students.
Speaking at the event, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani emphasized the importance of improving educational infrastructure in ensuring quality education for all children.

She noted that the new classrooms provide a comfortable and engaging environment for learners, enabling teachers to deliver lessons more effectively.
“The upgraded classrooms represent a more engaging experience for learners, while the modern toilet facilities will enhance hygiene and comfort for the children, promoting their overall well-being,” she said.
Previously, students were forced to use outdated and inadequate latrines, posing health risks and discouraging regular attendance.

The new toilets are expected to not only improve hygiene but also encourage higher enrollment and retention rates, particularly for girls, who often face greater challenges due to inadequate sanitation facilities.
She said the county has been providing bursaries for underprivileged students. However, she expressed concern over the move by the Controller of Budget Dr Margaret Nyakang’o to scrap county bursaries.

The governor further called for more partnerships with private sector players and international donors to support similar projects across the county.
“Education is a collective effort, and by working together, we can transform the lives of our children and uplift entire communities,” she said.
