The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has denied reports that it has revised entry requirements for individuals seeking to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education.

On Monday, January 13, the Commission flagged a statement doing rounds on social media and reported in some of the mainstream media stating that the teachers’ employer had reviewed the qualifications.

The now-flagged statement had stated that the students who wish to pursue teaching course should have achieved a B- (minus) in both English and Mathematics and a C+ (plus) in their preferred teaching subjects.

TSC responded saying that the requirements for pursuing various courses are listed on its website.

“Beware of fake news! The requirements for persons wishing to join the teaching service are outlined on our website http://tsc.go.ke. Stay informed,” TSC said in a statement.

TSC requires individuals aiming to pursue a bachelor of education to possess a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) and above or its equivalent and a C+ (plus) in two subjects of specialisation.

Those intending to pursue a diploma in education should have attained a minimum grade of C (plain) in KCSE and at least a C (plain) in English.

Also, they should also have attained a C (plain) in Mathematics for science-based courses and a D+ (plus) in Mathematics in non-science-based courses.
