Joy as Igembe Boys in Meru maintains excellent results in 2024 KCSE

Igembe Boys students are all smiles after learning of their sterling performance.

Igembe Boys has maintained its position as the academic champion of the Nyambene region in Meru County after outsmarting the old academic giants once again.

Now known as Christ the King Igembe School, the institution managed an impressive mean score of 7.92, one of the highest in the county.

The school Principal Dr Lawrence Mutembei said 233 out of 239 students scored more than C + securing slots in the university.

“We laud the students and leaders who have supported the school to keep delivering good results. We believe this is out of discipline, hard work and motivation,” Dr Mutembei said.

Karama Boys, Kitheo Secondary and St Lukes Secondary were the most improved with Karama Boys performance jumping from 3.89 in 2023 to 6.06 in 2024.

St Luke’s Secondary achieved a mean score of 6.4 up from 4.9 in 2023.

The school had 26 students attaining university entry grades.

Kitheo recorded a mean score of 6.3, up from 5.8 in 2023, the highest since the school was founded.

Kitheo Principal George Mbijiwe said 33 students out of 106 had qualified to join university.

Positive trajectory

“This is a great improvement from last year when we had a mean score of 5.8. The school has been on a positive trajectory since 2019 and this is the best performance since 1976. We are happy that all our students will transition to institutions of higher learning,”  Mbijiwe said.

Day secondary schools in the region also continued to shine with Kirindine Day Secondary, Mariri Day Secondary, Akaiga, among others outshining the known giants.

At Kirindine, 232 out of 338 students scored above C+ leading to celebrations after the school managed a mean score of 7.15

Kirindine Day Secondary Principal Irene Miriti said the support from stakeholders had enabled the institution to maintain its exemplary performance.

Mean scores

Other top performing Day secondary schools are Mariri with a mean of 6.48 with 165 students transitioning to the university.

Amugaa Day Secondary managed a mean score of 5.70 up from 4.85 in 2023.

Miathene Boys, Burieruri Boys, Mary Mother of God Mikinduri Girls’, Bishop Njiru Kangeta Girls’ and Maua Girls have for years been the region’s academic giants.

Jacinta Njagi, Kangeta Girls’ Principal said the school had recorded a mean of 6.9 which was an improvement from last year’s 6.3.

She said 111 students had attained university entry grades.

Other top schools in the region include Mikinduri Girls 7.12, Akaiga Secondary 7.04, Maua Girls 6.88, St Mary’s Ntanki 6.87, Kanjalu Girls 6.85, Njia Boys 6.83 and Miathene Boys 6.82.

Others are Akithii Girls’ 6.52, St Lukes 6.4, Kimachia Secondary 6.32, Karama Boys 6.06, Ntuene Secondary 5.89 and Burieruri Boys 5.85.
