At least 97 percent of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms in Kericho County have been completed and are ready for use.
A spot check by Education News established that out of 142 classrooms, over 98 have been handed over to the Ministry of Education by various contractors.
Another set of 30 classrooms out of 142 are at various stages of completion; 12 are at the roofing level, while only nine are at the walling level.
Twenty-five classrooms that have been completed and handed over to the Ministry of Education have been submitted for the processing of payments to contractors.
The 142 classrooms are distributed across the six sub-counties in Kericho, with Sub-County having benefited from 34 classrooms, Londiani 30, Kericho East Sub-County 21, Soin Sigowet 18, Belgut 18, and Kipkelion 21.
County Director of Education Julius Ngoneshi urged contractors who are still working on the classrooms to speed up the completion of the CBC classrooms so they are ready for occupation and use by junior secondary students in early January next year.

“We are almost through with the construction of CBC classrooms. I would, however, like to ask contractors who are yet to complete their classrooms to do so urgently,” noted Ngoneshi.
The contract sum for one classroom is Sh788,220, with County Commissioner Stephen Kitiyo hailing the committee spearheading the construction works.
“All classrooms will be complete before the reopening of schools. I would like to commend the committee spearheading the construction works for the job well done,” said Kitiyo, who is also the chairman of education affairs in the county.
