The County Government of Bungoma has pledged to intensify efforts to improve vocational training colleges (VTCs), aiming to equip the youth with skills crucial for economic empowerment and self-reliance.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony at Chebukwabi Vocational Training College, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Agnes Wachiye reaffirmed their focus on technical education.

The CECM highlighted plans to strengthen infrastructure, modernize training equipment, and enhance the quality of education offered in these institutions.

“The county government recognizes vocational training as a critical solution to unemployment and a driver of economic growth. By investing in these institutions, we aim to provide young people with the tools they need to succeed and contribute to our community,” she remarked.

She further encouraged graduands to utilize their skills to create employment opportunities, innovate and contribute to local industries.

“Your skills are the foundation for a prosperous future. Use them to uplift yourselves and those around you,” she advised.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of hundreds of graduands who had completed programmes in fields such as carpentry, tailoring, masonry, and electrical installation.

According to the CECM, the county has introduced several initiatives to support vocational training, including subsidies for tuition fees, increased funding for facility upgrades, and partnerships with industry players to ensure programmes are aligned with market needs.

“The focus on vocational education is part of a broader strategy to reduce youth unemployment, foster innovation, and promote sustainable development within the county,” she said.

The event was attended by local leaders and other stakeholders who lauded the county’s focus on youth empowerment.
