Verified Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers across the country are in high spirits after successfully filling Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) forms during the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) document verification exercise that will secure their employment permanently.

Successful candidates in Teso North sub-county who spoke to Education News commended the Sub County Director (SCD) and the entire verification panel for subjecting them to a flawless and exemplary process.

“The exercise was free and fair. We were received well and guided with our fatherly Sub County Director and able Curriculum Support Officers,” quipped an elated intern.

In the coastal region, one SCD received endless praises after she extended the verification exercise to accommodate a female teacher who had recently delivered at a local hospital.

Other SCDs being lauded include those in charge of Delta sub-county in Tana River county, Hadado sub-county in Wajir county, Shantabag sub-county in Garissa county, Elwak sub-county in Mandera county, Ithanga/Kakuza and Thika West sub-counties in  Kiambu county, and Kipipiri sub-county in Nyandarua county.

The teachers expressed optimism that their turn to be employed was secured after the smooth process.

In the North Rift, a male teacher cried profusely with joy upon been given the employment letter to fill. He was given time to vent his joy as the rest were guided on how to fill the form.

The scene was the same for a female teacher in Trans Nzoia county who was accompanied by her clan elder as a witness during the filling of the document.

Tribalism rears ugly head in ongoing TSC teachers’ recruitment exercise

The exercise kicked off on October 11, 2024 and will end today.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the SCDs called shortlisted candidates to arrive at the respective recruitment venues to fill the employment forms.

For the first time, the Commission’s preparedness and near-seamless document verification in some sub-counties has been praised, with teachers saying it met their expectations.

In the process of redeeming its image, TSC should also ensure it rises above political interference during such exercises. It should also stem tribalism and regionalism that was thwarted with a lot of effort by its field officers.
