The Kenya National Parents Association, Bomet chapter, has expressed dissatisfaction with the numerous unresolved issues in the education ministry.

Chairperson Stephen Koskei stated that some of the issues date back to the past regime, with the current administration showing no signs of addressing them.

Speaking in Bomet town, he noted that the association has not had a substantive national chairperson, a situation he says has affected the running of their operations.

“We have so many problems in the education sector and as we speak, our association does not have a national chairman. Financial management is also a huge challenge,” he noted.

He said that financial management at the association also remains a challenge, arguing that consolidating the same would cause trouble given that proper planning has not been carried out.

He observed that the EduAfya programme failed due to the government’s failure to heed to an advisory issued by Parliament under the Standing Order Number 127.

“Edu-Afya failed because the government failed to heed an advisory presented under the Standing Order Number 127. If these issues are not addressed, things will be tough in the coming days. We hereby ask President William Ruto to pick professionals to head the various departments in the ministry and not just politicians,” said Koskey.

Koskei is now appealing for an urgent convergence of education stakeholders to address the problems, adding that education is key hence should not be mismanaged.

The new University Funding model, the implementation of teachers CBA and the ongoing lecturers strike are some of the challenges in the education sector, with the association further calling for appointment of professionals and not politicians to head the various departments in the sector.
