Prof. Eng. Simon Oyuko Mbeche has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Uzima University by the varsity’s Senate.

His appointment comes after the varsity’s Founding Chancellor Zacchaeus Okoth stepped down recently.

Okoth, who is the former Kisumu Archdiocese Catholic head Bishop Emeritus, made the announcement on Monday as he wished Prof. Mbeche well in his new assignment.

Prof. Mbeche, in his acceptance speech, welcomed the appointment, which he described as a surprise to him.

Nevertheless, he said he is up to the task and promised to work with every stakeholder at the institution to make the university a better institution.

He said that despite being a civil engineer and lecturer for 42 years, he will try his best to fit at Uzima University which specializes in medical courses.

“I have dealt with the administration of professors, senior lecturers, lectures and students in engineering, I believe you will teach me what to do and how to adjust to medicine, which is a new reality for me,” he said.

The varsity Vice Chancellor Rev. Dr. Cosmas Rhagot said that they were thrilled with the appointment as they looked ahead to build the institution to greater heights.
