President William Ruto has revealed that the government will build 1,800 modern laboratories in secondary schools across the country this year alone.
Speaking during the town hall meeting in Kenya International Conventional Centre (KICC) yesterday during an engagement on the new university funding model, Ruto said about 3,500 secondary schools in marginalised, informal settlements and rural areas for so many years have failed to send students to universities due to lack of adequate facilities, especially labs.
“We are going to build 1,800 modern labs which will be well equipped… students only come across the first lab setting during KCSE exams. That disturbs me a lot that we have close to 1.2 million students in schools that have no chance of going to universities because of the school they attend,” he said, adding that he had agreed with MPs to establish Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hubs in every Ward across the country to ensure access to internet.
