The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has extended the deadline for education stakeholders to submit their views from July 31 to August 31.

In July, KICD, via the Ministry of Education, requested all education stakeholders, particularly secondary school principals and teachers, to review and provide feedback on the Grade 10 Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) designs.

Stakeholders were invited to offer feedback on multiple aspects of the curriculum design. This included essence statements and expected learning outcomes, the scope and sequence of topics and sub-topics, suggested learning experiences, proposed assessment methods, learning materials, and extracurricular activities.

Moreover, stakeholders are encouraged to offer their insights on any relevant suggestions regarding the Grade 10 curriculum design and the overall implementation of the CBC at the senior school level.

The developed Grade 10 curriculum designs are uploaded to the KICD website at www.kicd.ac.ke Stakeholders are requested to send comments and suggestions to Grade10feedback@kicd.ac.ke or info@kicd.ac.ke

Since its introduction in 2019, the Ministry of Education has steadily rolled out the CBC, with the first cohort of CBC currently in Grade 8 expected to progress to Grade 9 in 2025 and Grade 10 in 2026, marking their inaugural year at senior school.

The CBC was launched to replace the previous 8-4-4 system, which was criticized for being too exam-oriented and not adequately preparing students for the job market and real-life challenges.
