Former CS for Education Ezekiel Machogu. People from his backyard are asking that he be reappointed into the docket to finish the projects he had started.

Some education stakeholders in Kisii and Nyamira counties have petitioned President William Ruto to reappoint immediate former CS for education Ezekiel Machogu to the position to complete the good work he initiated.

Led by Dr Robinson Ombati, Milcah Nyaboke and Dismus Mageka, female university students and Gen-Z groups, they asked the president to use his discretion and brave all the blames that have been levelled on him and retain some of the important men and women with experience to assist him take this country forward.

“We are not against the demands of Gen-Z groups …but we ask them to sober up and give those who have experience to show them how to improve this country. They are our children and this country is theirs but they should allow some room for old guards who will show them where the brooms are kept for their new house,” said Dr Ombati.

They listed some of the great changes and achievements that Machogu made during his short tenure in the Kenya Kwanza government, citing the employment of 56,000 teachers in one year, the largest number ever recruited in that period.

They also related the operationalization of the University Funding Board to Machogu, arguing that it provides equitable and accurate distribution of money to students.

The groups that spoke to the public at Manga town said that Machogu’s tenure in the Ministry of Education (MoE) witnessed a big increment of learners joining Technical and Vocational Training Institutes (TVETs) because of improved funding.

Nyaboke cautioned the Gen-Z against the rejection of elders in government, reminding them that Cabinet secretaries (CSs) are not appointed because they lack employment but they go there to add value.
