Outrage after police lob teargas at school during demonstrations in Kakamega

Kawangware
A teargas canister was lobbed at a school in Kakamega during today's anti-government protests, sparking outrage.

In Kakamega County, at Mwiyala Primary School, a controversial incident unfolded when police officers teargassed students within the school compound.

The incident provoked significant public outcry when videos surfaced showing certain students visibly affected by teargas, while others carried on with their activities seemingly unaffected.

Faith Odhiambo, President of the Law Society of Kenya, vehemently criticized the assault on the children, urging authorities to provide a comprehensive explanation regarding the unjust targeting of innocent students.

Nationwide protests calling for reforms in both national and devolved governments have faced incidents of police brutality.

Law enforcement authorities deployed tear gas in response to increasing tensions during demonstrations, aiming to suppress unrest and prevent additional chaos.
