Young teachers in Kisumu welcome President Ruto move to dissolve Cabinet

Kisumu Young Teachers Association (KIYOTA) has lauded President William Ruto for firing all the 21 Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General.

In a letter signed by Obondo Wycliffe, KIYOTU Secretary General dated July 11, 2024 and seen by Education News, he thanked President Ruto for making a bold and courageous move to dissolve the entire cabinet.

However, Obondo said that it is the association hope that the President selects a CS in the education docket who is an educationalist to steer the ministry to greater heights.

“It is our hope that you will find an educationalist with requisite unwavering commitment to excellence to take over the education docket,” he said.

Obondo said the new Education CS should be reliable as well as have traits that can boost the sector.

“The issue of high cost of education is still a worry to the people of Kenya. We anticipate that bad education policies will be scrapped off and that all the stakeholders will be brought on board to make contributions that will propel our education system to the next level.

“We eagerly look forward to a tangible paradigm shift that will allow the right people with exceptional expertise take over positions of leadership. Our young people must be part and parcel of this noble exercise. Thank you for this wise and timely action. We expect more just like other Kenyans do,” Obondo added.

Yesterday, the whole country was engulfed with shock after  President Ruto fired all 21 Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General with immediate effect.

The President while addressing the Nation from State House on Thursday, July 11, 2024 afternoon, said the only office that will not be affected is that of the Deputy President and Prime Cabinet Secretary who doubles as the CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

Ruto said that he had resolved to dissolve his Cabinet after listening keenly to the people’s views.

“Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5) (b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” he said.
