President Ruto fires 21 Cabinet Secretaries, AG as radical changes in government intensifies

President William Ruto has fired all 21 Cabinet Secretaries in for all ministries and Attorney General with immediate effect.

The President while addressing the Nation from State House on Thursday, July 11, 2024 afternoon, said the only office that will not be affected is that of the Deputy President and Prime Cabinet Secretary who doubles as the CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

Ruto said that he had resolved to dissolve his Cabinet after listening keenly to the people’s views.

“Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5) (b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” he said.

Ezekiel Machogu, who was the CS for Education is among those who have been fired just in less than two years after he was sworn in office on October 27, 2022.

The former CS is a seasoned career civil servant and administrator. Before his appointment as Cabinet Secretary, Machogu was the Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Masaba Constituency from 2017 to 2022.

There has been fears of his axing from the docket after President Ruto recently revealed that public servants should not exceed 60 years in office amid pressure from the people more so the youth who have been calling for their inclusion in the government.
