Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Masaba North Sub branch has said they will stand always to defend Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) teachers after being disciplined by employer for participating in strike.

Masaba North Sub-county Executive Secretary Joseph Arasa said the union will plead with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to consider reinstating some of the JSS who violated the law by apologising but did not apologize when they were asked to do so.

“Almost all of them downed their tools but those who were remorseful are back enjoying their work but the obstinate ones are now crying for help,” he said.

The secretary regretted that out of the more than 10,700 JSS teachers only 742 of them were removed from the TSC payroll because of their misdemeanor and asked them to be humble.

“We warned them about the repercussion of their standoff but they disobeyed us but when they were sacked but given a second chance to apologize to the employer they refused and now they are crying to us for rescue,” he said.

The secretary was addressing parents, teachers and learners of Eronge DEB Primary School in Kitutu Masaba Constituency on Monday June 1 during the retirement ceremony of one Nyakoe.

He asked teachers to live exemplary life which enables them to leave a legacy during their retirement.

He asked school sponsor to deceased from interfering with the running of their school by only providing spiritual nourishment to the teachers and their pupils instead of overstepping their mandate.

He accused some unnamed denomination for choosing and dictating the posting of teachers who belonged to their denomination to some school.

“When the government trains teachers it does not indicate their denominations on their certificate but a teacher is mandated to teach in any school anywhere in and outside the country,” he said.

Parents and teachers praised one Nyakoe for his exemplary work and wished him goof life as he retired from teaching but asked him not to be tired of discharging his leadership services to the community.

“A teacher is always a teacher even if it does not mean for him to carry a book and pen he can always stand in the centre of the community and offer direction,” said a parent Damaris Nyakundi.

“Nyakoi has lived a professional life and impacted in the teaching field. We know he carries with him the rich experience as he retire and will help us in different matters,” said David Ongeri

In the colourful ceremony, the retired teacher danced with his staff and learners as they shed tears of love and promised to remain to partner in the village to foster their socio- economic life.
